16-Lawyer's Personal Interests

A lawyer may not prepare an instrument giving the lawyer or a member of the lawyer's family any gift from a client, unless the lawyer is the client's relative. If the client wishes to have a lawyer select charities to whom the client's bequest should be distributed, the client should use a trust. [Under Rule 1.10(a), this disqualification is now imputed to the lawyer's entire firm.]
