48-Criminal Defense Lawyers

Court-appointed criminal defense lawyers must follow the process outlined in Anders v. California, 386, U.S. 738 (1967), which Virginia has codified in Rule 5(a):12 -- requiring such lawyers to file a petition for appeal even if it is based on frivolous grounds after the client entered a guilty plea.
